Portable Puzzle Collection 2006.12.30

Portable Puzzle Collection 2006.12.30 | 2 mb

Collection of small computer programs which implement one-player puzzle games. All of them run natively on Unix (GTK), on Windows, and on Mac OS X. I wrote this collection because I thought there should be more small desktop toys available: little games you can pop up in a window and play for two or three minutes while you take a break from whatever else you were doing. And I was also annoyed that every time I found a good game on (say) Unix, it wasn't available the next time I was sitting at a Windows machine, or vice versa; so I arranged that everything in my personal puzzle collection will happily run on both those platforms and more. When I find (or perhaps invent) further puzzle games that I like, they'll be added to this collection and will immediately be available on both platforms. And if anyone feels like writing any other front ends - Mac OS pre-10, PocketPC, or whatever it might be - then all the games in this framework will immediately become available on another platform as well.

Pro Pinball: Timeshock

Pro Pinball: Timeshock | PC Pinball simulation 3D | Empire Interactive | 91,3 MB

Pro Pinball: Timeshock brings you a full 3D pinball table on screen. So detailed you'll even think you can see your reflection in the careening ball and gleaming metal fittings. You'll play it just like the real thing too, only harder. It's real pinball all right, but what pinball table ever confronted you with dinosaurs hissing for your blood...or the might of Mount Rushmore sneering down and daring you to climb up? This is the most complex, rewarding, frustrating, entertaining, exciting, colorful, fastest, musical and best pinball experience ever. Steel yourself for the total assault of a multi-layered adventure in vision and sound through four different time zones. Experience gleaming silicon graphics that test your capabilities to the limit. You'll discover resolution rising to a shocking 1600x1200 in 16 million colors, with ingenious animated toys and fiendish games within a game on the dot matrix display. All this is brought to you by the makers of Pro Pinball
Timeshock! may be the closest thing you'll find to real pinball on the PC.

Past efforts to bring the game of pinball to home computers have been often futile efforts. While it's true that there have been some entertaining products released, problems such as split screens and skittish physics have had a hampering effect on realism. Empire Interactive's Pro Pinball: Timeshock! has none of the problems of its predecessors, and may be the closest thing you'll find to real pinball on the PC.

As the story goes, an experiment in the future failed, releasing a Timeshock. The Timeshock is headed back toward the dawn of time, intent upon the destruction of everything, and you must stop it by gathering pieces of the time crystal, scattered throughout four eras. By completing playfield tasks, and surviving the Time Machine and Time Warp Frenzy, you will race toward the dawn of time. Create an Anti-Timeshock and save the universe. But Timeshock isn't an adventure game, it's pinball, and thankfully the plot here doesn't sully the action.

Gameplay is fast and accurate, and anyone who has ever spent time bandying a little silver ball around a playfield will appreciate Timeshock's attention to the physical properties of pinball. In Timeshock, the ball behaves as if it were a tangible object, reacting to its three-dimensional environment with absolute precision. Whether the ball comes off the bumpers or down the ramps, it adheres to the proper laws of physics, providing the most realistic pinball simulation yet on a PC. This realism isn't limited to the spinning ball either, because Timeshock beautifully translates all the elements on a pinball table into a vibrant, three-dimensional arena.

Table design in Timeshock is seamless. Ramps, bumpers, flippers, and chutes are positioned to work together, and play off each other, fluidly. This critical element comes across strong in Timeshock, and as your game progresses certain combinations of ramp shots are needed to further the plot. Tables can be adjusted to any of four views: three varying angles of perspective and the now-lackluster flat table are just a click away.

All the elements in Timeshock combine just right, delivering a fully realized product that screams, "Play me." Actually, a digitized voice says that, and in full surround-sound to boot. Timeshock is the best computer pinball simulation yet, and if you get good enough at it, you can even brag about your high score by posting it at the Empire web site.

Punic Wars

Punic Wars | 27.83 mb

The Punic Wars were arguably the most significant armed struggle in all of antiquity. Over the course of more than a century the two most powerful nations in the Mediterranean battled for supremacy. The forces involved, and the casualties suffered by both sides, were far greater than in any wars fought before modern times. The outcome of the wars was even greater. For Carthage it meant total destruction. For Rome it meant rising from a regional power to become the dominant military force that would rule Europe and North Africa for hundreds of years to come. In this first title in the new Ancient Warfare series of games the primary focus is on the land battles from the second Punic War. The time period chosen (300-200BC) is designed to encompass battles Rome fought not only against Carthage, but against their neighboring Italian states, as well as the subjugation of Celtic and Iberian tribes, and the bloody fights with the Epirotes. Try your hand as a Consul of Rome, Hannibal, King Pyrrhus, or one of the other captains in numerous historical conflicts. You may also face off against an opponent in a balanced hypothetical match from the "table top series" of battles included. There are 41 scenarios included (17 historical, 8 hypothetical & 16 from the Table Top Series) covering actions such as Cannae, Asculum, Heraclea & Trebbia. The Table Top Series (TTS) are scenarios made up of evenly matched armies based on points based on the concepts of many of the miniature gaming rules in existence for this time period of gaming.

From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn | 245 Mb

With last year's horror-themed action-adventure game The Devil Inside, designer Hubert Chardot attempted to reclaim the "survival horror" genre that he arguably started when he created Alone in the Dark--the game that largely inspired Capcom's hugely successful Resident Evil series. Unfortunately, The Devil Inside, despite having some original ideas and gameplay elements, failed to make much of an impact. Evidently undaunted, Chardot is back again this year with another horror-themed game, From Dusk Till Dawn. And though it features some really interesting new ideas for the genre, its technical problems and overall lack of polish outweigh its few strengths.
As expressed in the gameplay of From Dusk Till Dawn, the best idea that Chardot has for the future of survival-horror games is the elimination of the simplistic, generally inane collection and item-manipulation puzzles that have become a staple of the genre. Instead, From Dusk Till Dawn's focus is exclusively on combat. In fact, Seth can't even jump, eliminating the possibility of even those types of "puzzles" that rely on fancy footwork. Every element of the game revolves around fighting. Its two subgames, which both occur several times, are a mounted Gatling gun mode, reminiscent of Wizard Works' simple shooter Beachhead 2000, and a sniper mode that's a lot like Virtua Cop and other light-gun games.
What differentiates this unyielding focus on combat from other pure combat games is From Dusk Till Dawn's other standout concept: the band of survivors. Though it's a staple of zombie and vampire movies, including the game's inspiration, the gradual accumulation of a ragtag group of allies has been effectively absent from the survival-horror genre. Though the game doesn't quite pull it off, it at least makes the attempt. As you make your way through the ship, you'll come across survivors, both singly and in groups. Instead of running away, dying, or disappearing through some other convenient plot contrivance, they're each incorporated into the story and will follow you throughout the rest of the game. Though they come and go as the plot progresses, and though you're sometimes required to go somewhere alone, in a given battle, you may have as many as five or six autonomous characters helping you fight the undead.

Europa Universalis II

Europa Universalis II | 360 Mb

Europa Universalis II is an empire-building, computer strategy game, based on European and world history and spanning a timeline between 1419 through 1820.
In the game, the player controls a single nation across many centuries, managing their nation's economy, military, political alliances, scientific development, exploration and colonization, religious affairs, and internal stability. In addition, yearly random events as well as hundreds of pre-scripted events based on historical events make for a great deal of gameplay challenge and variety.
EU2 differs from many similar, turn-based strategy games in that time flows continuously during gameplay, rather than taking place in discreet turns. The player can always pause the action to ponder the situation and give orders, then speed up or slow down time to let events take their course.

EU2 differs from many similar, turn-based strategy games in that time flows continuously during gameplay, rather than taking place in discreet turns. The player can always pause the action to ponder the situation and give orders, then speed up or slow down time to let events take their course.
The game ships with several historical scenarios, including games that take place during the Age of Exploration, the American Revolution, and the Napoleonic Wars. There is also a Grand Campaign that lets players choose one world power and guide it from the end of the Middle Ages and into the 19th Century. There is also a Fantasy Scenario in which starting positions are more or less equal.
While the Grand Campaign is geared primarily towards the major European powers of the time, such as Russia, England, France, Poland, Holy Roman Empire and Spain, the game is unique in that players can choose to play as one of more than a hundred minor, obscure or no longer extant nations, in locations as diverse as the Indian subcontinent or Southeast Asia.

Game Modding
The game goes into a great deal of granular detail, including urban populations for each of the hundreds of provinces, thousands of historical monarchs, generals, and explorers, as well as names for colonies, armies, and fleets.
In addition, with almost all of the game data stored in easy to edit text files, the game is easy to modify and customize, yielding a large and thriving mod community. Players have been able to create new flags, maps, units, historical events, leaders, and entire scenarios, too.

Publishing History
The game was developed by Paradox Interactive as a sequel to Europa Universalis , and was first released for the PC in 2001 by Strategy First, with a Macintosh port created by Virtual Programming and published by MacPlay.
A version of the game, called Europa Universalis II: Asian Chapters, was released for Asian markets, adding new graphics and scenarios that centered around Asian history instead.

Weather Master 1.1

Weather Master 1.1 | 18 mb

The purpose of the game is to build a rainbow across all the sky while cleaning the landscape from raindrops and thereby scattering the clouds. A game includes 50 levels and combines unsophisticated, classic, easy-to-learn game play and an original action. Mastering the game is facilitated by prompts.
The game provides for bonuses that make a playing process varied and unforeseeable.
Not everybody is endowed with the ability to set fine weather, to scatter the clouds, to build a rainbow. You will be given such a chance in our game. It is not so easy, especially at first (as the weather gets better, it is easier to build a rainbow). Only those daring and decisive will set about it and when they manage to succeed they will be rewarded by the beauty appearing before them. The beautiful landscape is saddened only by the gloomy cloud from where multicolored drops fall now and then. Drops fall on the land and remain there in layers. A player has to collect drops from an upper layer in the order of the rainbow colors. Each set of collected 7 drops (red through violet) goes up to the sky and
forms a part of a large rainbow overhanging across all the sky. The longer a rainbow becomes, the lighter is the landscape and the smaller is the cloud. So, if you have made up your mind you will need only attention and mother wit. It is important to notice the drops of the required color and to choose only the best of possible variants. At the beginning of the game, when the cloud appears, the roll of thunder
is heard. Multicolored drops fall out from the cloud and randomly cover the land. One drop is blown away by the gust of wind, and it flits on the branch of a tree. Your task is to choose only those fallen drops the colors of which in combination with a hanging up drop form a part of the rainbow. You must choose the drops that have no other drops above them.

Here's yet another excellent English-translated dating-sim from G-Collections, Pick Me, Honey!

My name is Reiji Oshima, an average Japanese student. I've got a problem -- I'd really like to find a girlfriend, but I'm surrounded by beautiful girls who seem intent on keeping me from getting romantically involved with someone. Then on my birthday, my father makes an announcement: I am to take over the family business, but before that day I must choose a wife from among the beautiful girls in the room. According to Japanese law, a man can only marry one person, but in Japan's past it was common for men to take a wife as well as several concubines. But which girl will I choose for my wife?

And so the battle for my heart begins, with childhood friend Hazuki, charming and pure Chihiro, elegant Mio, cute Futaba-sensei and totally grown-up Yoriko all vying for my love by cooking, cleaning, and doing anything they can for me. It's a breathtaking battle of love, and my life is good!

Pick Me, Honey! is a multi-scenario love-sim game for Windows. You play the interactive game by moving through the story and making choices that affect the outcome, allowing for many different potential endings and excellent replay value. The game features the original Japanese voices along with an accurate English translation. This game is 100% uncensored.
